Natural cherry wood is perhaps the most sought after furniture hardwood by woodworkers in North America for its color and aging process. It is a smooth-grained, reddish-brown hardwood with moderate natural luster that comes from the American Black Cherry fruit tree. This wood darkens in colour over time, the most apparent changes happening within the first six months of light exposure. It may continue for several years before reaching that beautiful, reddish brown hue that cherry wood is known for. Cherry is rated as being very durable and resistant to decay although it is not typically used in exterior applications. Its common uses are for cabinetry, fine furniture, flooring, interior millwork, veneer, turned objects, and small specialty wood items.
